what has been left after the plagues is a constellation of ghost towns.

the lone survivors walk the streets of an emptied world, one that alternates swiftly between discomfortingly eerie silence and chaotic brutality. it doesn't seem to understand moderation, the pendulum swinging from one extreme to the other in the space of a heartbeat. there are times when it feels like you are the only person left in the ruins - like you will be driven mad by the nightmares and the grievous silence that follows. and there are other times. times when you know you are not alone in the darkness, not with the rift opening up one last time to pour into the cracks every monster it has in its arsenal; you must protect yourself.

careful where you step. you might stumble on rotting bodies across desolate lawns. you might stumble on rioters fueled by flagg's nightmares until they committed to his deadly causes - believing you to be the enemy. if you're lucky, you'll cross paths with those who, like you, are trying to find a place to lay their weary heads. if you're not, pray to what gods you believe in that someone hears you.

prayer may be all you have left.

The world has ended.

The majority of the world is dead but not you. You survived. You're alive, surrounded by dead bodies. There are people who died in their beds unaware that what seemed like the flu would end them, coughing and choking to death in their last moments. There are people who died later in their cars, trying to drive out of the city but getting caught in the congestion of people trying to escape when there was nowhere to go. There are people who died in the streets among the rioters, railing against God because they knew they were doomed like everyone else the moment they got sick.

But not you.

You survived, and you're caught in a war which has been going on since time began.

It's a war of good vs evil, God vs the Devil.

When you think you've found a safe enough place to sleep at night, they'll come to you. One comes in warmth with a message of hope and a message to come to Boulder, Colorado. Enjoy a warm meal with other survivors. She makes you feel loved and welcome. She makes you feel like there might be something to grab hold on in the chaos of what remains.

There are other dreams.

There are nightmares too which seep into your sleep, making it restless. They are strong, intense. There's a man walking beyond the rows of corn stalks in the middle of a field. He stops, and you think he might be a shadow until he turns to smile at you. He's all charm, isn't he? But you get the feeling of dread underneath it all, and he says Come to Las Vegas if you want to survive, if you want to have fun. We've got power here. We've got food, and we've got a place to lie your head down, softest sheets you've ever felt. We've got opportunity for anyone who is tired of struggling. And doesn't he smile exactly like a politician who means it? Until his face grows dark, his words become sharp like a snake shedding its outer skin, Go to Boulder if you want to burn.

Upon waking, there's the distinct feeling of fear like disobeying him will seal your fate in something worse than death. He'll be back in your head with promises very specific to you in time

but for now, he's just here to say, hello.

Pleased to meet you,

hope you guess my name.
